The Entrepreneur ‘Gut Feel’

January 31st, 2007 Lito

What is Gut Feel? Many schools are offering business courses nowadays because many people have been putting up their own businesses. While it is not necessary to go to school to learn to put up a business, many entrepreneurs realized that it pays to study to avoid common mistakes and shorten up the learning curve that many entrepreneurs learned from many mistakes. But don’t be afraid to make mistakes, its part of the learning process.

There is one school I know that require that you should have at least a one-year-old registered business in order to enroll a course. It is the AIM (Asian Institute of Management). Your performance will depend on how you handle your business, no grades, quizzes or exams.

But on the contrary, a degree in entrepreneurship is not a guarantee that you will succeed. You can’t be sure on anything in business. The only thing you gain is the knowledge, skill, and experience that no one can take but GUT FEEL is still the key. A business degree teaches you only to validate. But when you ignore your gut feel, then it is the day entrepreneurship dies. Many successful businessmen don’t have a business diploma or certificate and rely mostly on gut feel. It is a kind of instinct an entrepreneur has in his mind. So success will rely heavily in the combination of the two, gut feel and knowledge especially now that we are entering globalization.

Success in Entrepreneurship: A Guideline if Having Your Own Business Venture Can Succeed

January 30th, 2007 Lito

Have you been dreaming of all the free time you would like to have, no boss telling you what to do and becoming the next tycoon like Bill Gates or Lucio Tan? So you want to own your own business? Well, there is good news and bad news about being an entrepreneur.

In America, according to the Small Business Association, only about 2% of the American population is emotionally and mentally equipped to succeed at owning their own business. Likewise here in the Philippines since we always adapt american culture is somehow similar to their fate. The only difference is we are a poor nation because of corruption.

Most people simply don’t know where to start and what to do. Lack of security and probably fear are large contributing factors in preventing people from striking out on their own.

GoKongWei’s Speech to the Ateneans - Be an Entrepreneur

January 29th, 2007 Lito

I didn’t know much about Go Kong Wei although I have chinese blood. Somehow my uncle who was a chinese have not much story about this man when I was a liitle kid ( I’m not very close to my father ). All I know that he was rich and owns many companies. Now that I’m older, again not much, just knowing he owns sun cellular and Jack & Jill. One day I got an email from our plant manager in the office where I work, I thought it was just a chain letter but when I read it, that is the only time I got to know this man. There are many eye opening facts that he stated in his speech back in 2004 specially the plight of us filipinos regarding our economy but we have to accept it and take action! How? by being an entrepreneur! more on that on my next blog but for now let us take a look on his speech.

Hello world!

January 28th, 2007 Lito

Welcome to my new blog. Seem a little weird the logo above have a jeepney picture in it. It so happen that this mode of transportation has helped many filipinos. This has been an icon of our country although thought of an inefficient mode of transportation, thus it has been with us and helped moved our economy. Transportaion of goods from the farm to the market place and people to their workplace eversince.

So now you know that this jeepney is very closed to entrepreneurship than we could think of. A humble jeepney driver is I consider an entrepreneur. Imagine how hard for him to drive, to remember the route, the places where he will transport his passenser while accepting payment and calculating the amount paid to him versus the change he will give. Very similar to a business man who manages his own business.

So that’s it for now and hoping you will visit frequently or share some business ideas!
