Many of us know eBay. It so happen that there was also eBay Philippines that we visit sometimes. But many us don’t realize the potential business that we can create as an individual by harnessing the power of eBay. One good example was Dekada Collectibles which was already a power seller on eBay. Online selling is managed and owned by Eireen Bernardo. Her business was home based and she manages the lists of items on EBay, answering email inquiries, shipping and packaging despite on her busy schedule as a mom.
It all began when her husband was retrenched from work in 2002. Her husband bought truckloads of old bottles from bulacan. But within a few months their items of antiques and collectibles grew and was named Dekada Collectibles . By September she started trading on eBay and their first sale was a 1974 Miss Universe photo of Miss Aruba which is bought for $34 by a Norwegian bidder (Would you believe that it was only 150 pesos?). Then after three months it became a power seller by hitting $1,000 in sales.
So now despite of her success, Eireen is helping and giving other Filipinos the chance to try and become sellers on eBay by conducting regular seminars and fostering support groups.
She believes that “Creating more Filipino sellers on eBay means helping create a more robust Philippine online market and brings in foreign currency”
With this story, sometimes things happen to us that we thought of as an ill luck but looking at it in a different angle, it is a blessing in disguise. Her husband was retrenched but it made him an opportunity to be more successful than being tied up in a 9 to 5 job. It’s like a tree. The branches will not have an opportunity to become another tree unless it is cut out from the main tree and planted in the ground. There it will have a chance either to wither or to grow into another tree. But if the branch will stay in the tree, there is no chance.
