Overiew of Direct Marketing

direct marketing
Have you ever been called by an agent asking you to apply for a credit card or discount card? I guess most of the time you are irritated by their calls. And most of the time when you opened your mailbox and see spam mails offering various items such as viagra, credit card applications, loan application and so forth and so on. This marketing approach used by businesses is called Direct Marketing. This is different from direct selling were agents sell items to customers directly like for example Avon or SaraLee.

Due to the market saturation of so many competing products and services, a shotgun approach of advertising is not as effective today as it was before. Seems that people are getting immune to advertising either by print or media. Similarly when compared to online business, being immune to a banner advertisements is called “ads blindness”. So now, many companies turn to direct marketing. To define it it’s simply a “Direct Relationship with Customers”.

Direct relationship with customers enables a business to tailor fit their products and services to a target market. Thus a business will be more efficient on providing solutions to their target market. If a business if efficient, then it is more competitive and most of the time equates to sales.
