Many successful businesses have it’s humble beginnings like the El Mare who sells buko pie. Two retired H.E. teachers started making buko pies with an initial investment of php50,000. This capital was used to buy equipments and materials since the place is already owned by the two so there were no problems in renting the place.
KSNS also featured the procedures on how to make the buko pie. It looks special because of the addition of eggs and cheese maybe this is reason why it became popular. The ingredients are selected fresh buko meat, dough, flour, lard, eggs, sugar, cream, water, corn starch, evaporated milk and cheese. If you want to see the actual video, click on the image below.
But although this business is lucrative, it’s seasonal and peak of sale occurs mostly on summer where students are in vacation. The OIC of Elmare, Jennifer Martinez, advised that to those who wants to engage in this kind of business, just make sure that you like what you are doing. As I’ve mentioned before, this is seasonal.

Entrepreneurship is a way of thinking. It doesn’t mean that if you have a business you are already a 100% entrepreneur. Because even if you started a business and you still think like an employee, then there will be a problem for sure. But even if you are employed but think like an entrepreneur, it will not be as hard for you overcome your financial problems. “You should not put all your eggs in one basket” so to speak. Businessmen doesn’t just rely on one kind of business, they replicate success. If they have built a successful enterprise they duplicate it by offering franchise or to venture on other kinds of business. Likewise as an employee, we should build safety nets and not totally depend on employment.
Yes, engaging in entrepreneurship is not easy and no one really knows if the venture that you are going to take will succeed or not but true entrepreneurs have equipped themselves with discipline that enable them to manage and survive.

There are many types of food cart businesses you can think of like pearl shakes, fruit shakes, nachos, siomai, baked good, fish ball, squid ball or rice in a box. The popularity of this type of business makes 1 billion pesos of sales every year.
But before you plan to start this type of business, you should first consider the location and the type of product you are selling for that location. It is important that the location should have high foot traffic. This is very obvious because how will sell you product if there is no one around? But even though there are lots of people passing doesn’t mean that you will already have a large amount of sale. For example, if you put your cart near the MRT or any public transport area people are always in a hurry to get to their destination and does not notice things around them very much.

In today’s changing world, many privileges that an employee gets from the company are slowly diminishing. Like for example an employee that will stick to his or her employer until retirement. This is because of the very competitive nature of our business today; many companies are trying to eliminate their most loyal employees just because of cost reduction. And the most merciful thing that an employer can do is the ‘Golden Handshake’. So many companies turn to outsourcing the jobs to reduce cost. And now we go to the question “How Much is Enough?” and the rich man will say, “Just a little bit more.” ( Greedy, huh? )
One of the most obvious reasons for outsourcing is to access expertise, equipment and experience not available in house or sometimes employer’s kicks-the-butt of those highly paid seniors and be replaced by an outsourcing workforce. Employers indeed save a lot of money and allow the product or services to command a more competitive price thus increasing the sales and productivity. The value of outsourcing is that it can help a business focus on the core area of the business while support will be handled by an outsider.
