Coconut industries in our country are lifting itself up due to the numerous products that are being derived from it. Aside from the coconut oil and coconut milk that we get from it for our cooking, now with the popularity of VCO or virgin coconut oil the industry is now flourishing. From the VCO, there are again numerous products that have evolved like shampoo, beauty soap and lotion that contain VCO. But did you know that sugar and tea can be also be produced from coconuts? Viviendo Philippines is now marketing the organic coconut sugar that is very suitable for diabetics because it will not raise the blood sugar. And coconut tea which are rich in calcium to combat osteoporosis.
Venturing into coconut industry requires a lot of patience because as you will know, coconut trees takes years to grow and for you to develop the products like for example the coconut sugar and tea. The coconut sugar is processed from coco palm nectar, the natives call it tuba, used in making wine. When fresh the liquid is sweet but will make you drunk if you drink it. The tea came from different parts of the coconut tree like for example the leaf and the bark.
And speaking of advise, the owner Mr. Paolo Mamangon said that those who wants to venture in business should posses two “P’s” one is Passion for Business, two is Patience in Business. Then the other P will follow, and that is Profit.

The nectar or sap is not just tuba. In some dialects there are distinctions between fresh tuba, day-old tuba and even the “proper” tuba.
If you recall high school chemistry, sugar turns into alcohol during fermentation. Therefore, when the coconut sap is fresh and very sweet (unfermented) there is no alchohol in it and it would be very impossible to get drunk on it.
Be patient, the sap begins to ferment in about 4 hours (less, if weather is very hot) and after about 4-8 hours, your brew should give you some tingling sensation.
“Proper” tuba is anywhere between 12-36 hours old. Less, when done without mangrove barks (aka tangal. An anti-fermenting agent).
I hope this helps.
