The study of management has been approached from both scientific and behavioral points of view. Taylor, for example, was concerned with the scientific implications of task management; Mayo was concerned with the behavioral aspect of human resource management. A definition of management will help you focus more clearly on the objectives of good management.
“Management is getting things done through people.”
Getting things done involves tasks (science) and through people emphasizes human resources (behavioral). So as an entrepreneur, especially if you are still on the initial stage of your business, you are the manager and the president so your task is divided on the managerial level and the task of the CEO.
If you’ve been involved in management, or if you’ve read articles on management, you’ve undoubtedly heard or seen this definition before. It covers much of the 20th century thought on the subject.
