Netrepreneurs on Google PankRank Update

October 27th, 2007 Lito

Many bloggers and webmasters around the world are experiencing the slap of page rank penalties. Many are popular sites with a high Page Rank reduced by 2. Meaning if they have 5, now they have 3. Below are some of the list of the mainstream websites that lost PR: (Source:Pinoy Money Talk and Daily BLog Tips)

  • www.engadget.com - from 7 to 5
  • www.autoblog.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.problogger.net - from 6 to 4
  • www.copyblogger.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.searchenginejournal.com - from 7 to 4
  • www.quickonlinetips.com - from 6 to 3
  • www.seroundtable.com - from 7 to 4
  • www.blogherald.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.weblogtoolscollection.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.johntp.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.washingtonpost.com- from 7 to 5
  • www.washingtontimes.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.forbes.com - from 7 to 5
  • www.sfgate.com - from 7 to 5
  • http://seattletimes.nwsource.com - from 6 to 4
  • Not only that, a few local blogs and big media sites were also affected by this recent PR downgrade, including us:

  • www.inquirer.net - from 6 to 4
  • www.manilatimes.net - from 6 to 4
  • www.philstar.com - from 6 to 4
  • www.yugatech.com - from 5 to 3
  • www.jozzua.com - from 5 to 3
  • www.aboutmyrecovery.com - from 5 to 3
  • www.retzwerx.com - from 5 to 3
  • www.pinoymoneytalk.com - from 4 to 2
  • So what is the culprit? April fools day? or Maybe it’s because of the coming Halloween. Not really. There are many versions of comments in the blogsphere like for example, the one really weird comment on Pinoy Money Talk about the curse of the 666. Before it was Bill Gates being accused of that. Maybe coincidence or maybe the truth. As a bible believing Christian, when you read on Revelation it might have a relation . Anyway, majority on the blogs I’ve read blamed the selling of links. Obviously many of them that were affected were selling links or for sometime sold links but removed them later. For example, the Problogger who regained his PR because he was falsely accused of selling links and was corrected later. Read his post on The Google Page Rank Pendulum Swings…. Again He was selling links before but removed them a long time ago.

So what to do if you were affected? I guess there is a choice. If PR is important to you then obey Google,( there is a suggestion from Darren in Problogger to go to the Webmaster’s Tools and ask reconsideration after removing the links) if not then what the heck. Just continue on what you are doing. Everybody is entitled to his own opinion.

This is just my opinion, we can’t blame Google because the company have it’s own objective, a quality and a business to protect. Besides, most of the webmasters still depend on Google and it’s products so we might as well obey. Right? ( call me a sucker, he he just kidding )
