Yahoo Store is Down This Monday

November 27th, 2007 Lito

Looks like the online business giant can’t handle the demand and traffic of the day called the “Cyber Monday” which looks like one of the most important day in America for shoppers. This was reported in CNBC news on their website.

News doesn’t get worse than this for a company like Yahoo! Inc. On a day that’s arguably one of the most important for online shoppers during the holiday shopping season, the so-called “Cyber Monday,” Yahoo’s shopping and transaction algorithm appears to be down.

For a company that hosts three million small and medium online businesses, this is a problem that could send sizeable ripples through the online economy.

Inventory Management In A Nutshell

November 26th, 2007 Lito

When you’re in manufacturing or retail, managing inventory is important for survival and profitability. Words by Ruben Canlas Jr., MBA

WHAT IS INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

Inventory management refers to how we plan, monitor and control the materials used in various stages of manufacturing a product. Our definition of inventory includes raw materials, WIP (works-in-process or partially assembled goods), the finished goods themselves and MROs (maintenance/ repair/operating supplies needed to keep our machines working well). The concept of inventory has also been extended to embrace such non-traditional definitions as airlines seats, hotel rooms and concert tickets.

Managing inventory makes sense in a business because it helps minimize costs like warehousing and shelving costs, spoilage and obsolescence, delivery and transportation, interest and cost of money (keeping inventory implies that your money is asleep and not earning interest).
Retail stores, groceries, restaurants, factories and delivery services benefit greatly from inventory management. For example, a food chain has perishable raw materials that need to be used up quickly.

Social Entrepreneurship Featured in GoNegosyo

November 24th, 2007 Lito

Entrepreneurship really has it’s bottom line, to earn a profit. But little that we know that this God given skill or talent should not be self-serving. Many entrepreneurs or business people just venture for the sake of profit or money. They put aside the humanitarian side of it and many businesses device tactics to earn more and more by eliminating jobs because they think that paying to too many employees will make their business bankrupt. That’s a valid reason, but not to some companies where the only objective is cost cutting to earn much more.

Some business owners say that they are running a business, not a charitable institution and I read in a forum that if you cling too much to charity, you might be asking for charity yourself. But there is a saying that “it’s more blessed to give than to receive”. Well I guess we all have different opinions but the only thing that matter is what we value most: Money or Charity?

Higantes Festival 2007 - Viva San Clemente! in Angono Rizal

November 23rd, 2007 Lito

It was quite an experience but not too exciting because I was just dragged by my wife to watch the Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal. Since I reside near Angono, less than a kilometer we decided to watch it. Yes we enjoyed but the crowd is too many and I can’t get a good place to watch it. And there were people that splashed water to spectators and I was lucky enough that I did not wet too much. Some people can’t take that tradition for example the old woman that I saw who was very angry and cursing guy holding the water gun and with some irresponsible people who threw a pail with water which a poor girl was hit by a pail in the head and then cried. Her mother was not worried too much about her but was angry because the mother’s cellphone got wet!

My cell phone was low batt so I didn’t get the chance to take all the pictures of the Higantes specially those with advertising sash. ( See the pictures below which I have taken during the parade ). I’ve observed that celebration of this festival like this became a part of advertising which businesses like Chowking, SaveMore (SM), Western Union, GSM, Superferry and the rest because the big tarpaulin banners have a sponsor name on it and the Higantes have a sash with the company name on it also. Who Is Dietrich Mateschitz?

November 22nd, 2007 Lito

I wanted to share with you this newsletter from Mike Litman about a Billionaire’s success story. I’m sure very few know the name Deitrich Mateschitz. I even have a hard time pronouncing it. But if I say Red Bull, the energy drink then maybe this sounds familiar to you. This is a popular energy drink here in the Philippines. I once thought that this came from a Filipino manufacturer but since I read Mr Litman’s story, now I know that this came from the U.S.A. So without much ado here is the story:

Hey Lito!
