This Saturday’s segment on Embestigador featured some establishments that does not comply with the law regarding inclusion of VAT (Value Added Tax) on the prices of their menus. Yes, Filipinos are indeed fond of eating that is why food business in the Philippines is thriving. But some business owners of restaurants exclude the VAT maybe because they wanted to make their price competitive in expense of the customer’s burden. The prices on the menu will not reflect on the receipt because you will just know the VAT after you got the receipt and when you are ready to pay. Watching the segment revealed that there are 20% of business owners who did not comply when the DTI made a surprise investigation on food establishments in the Quezon city area. According to the Department Administrative Order No. 10 Section 2:
The price tag must be written clearly, indicating the price of the consumer product including Value Added Tax (VAT). Whenever the consumer product is VATABLE.
