Finally, My New Antique Computer Table

May 31st, 2008 Lito

Ahem…I was just kidding about the new computer table in my post title, since it was just a remake from an old antique office desk. For more than a week I painstakingly build my own design using those hardwood parts from the old table. I also use AutoCAD making the design to speed up the designing process but since I lack woodworker tools like an electric saw, a plane and electric sander to make a more professional look on my creation, I spent more time making it but still the end result is not bad at all. I have a portable compressor and a spray gun for applying the varnish but decided to use a paint brush instead because it was messy.

The only electric powered gadget I have is an electric drill. The rest are done manually. If you like to get the drawing plan in AutoCAD format, just visit my other blog http://www.cadblog.net and I’ll make another post about the details. So without much ado, just see the photo below:

Been Busy Making a Computer Table

May 28th, 2008 Lito

Sorry for not creating new posts. I’ve been busy converting my father’s office desk into a computer table. I don’t know why I still have to make it myself although just buying a computer table will save me time and I’ve seen a cheap computer table in Sta. Lucia and SM hypermart. I think the reason is the table have a sentimental value to me because it was my father’s office desk since I’m a little child. It was mostly made of hardwood, Narra to be exact and almost 35 years old if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve wanted to convert it a long time ago because it was very bulky, 5 feet by 3 feet on the table top and 31 inches in height. It weights more than 40 kilos. Look at the photo below. I tried to sell it on eBay but it wasn’t sold because really, selling antique furnitures requires a lot of time and I don’t have the luxury of it. Me and my family are relocating to another apartment soon so I need to make the table smaller. So till then, I’ll tell you and show the computer on my next post.

Make Your Home Made Yogurt

May 18th, 2008 Lito

homemade yogurtYogurt is one of my favorite dessert and also my family, and specially my daughter. They are good to eat if they come in with fruit bits like mangoes, papaya, buko and nata de coco. Whenever I buy in the supermarket I always have second thoughts because of the cost. Imagine, just a 125ml of a known local brand will cost as much as 32 pesos. But if you will try to make it at home, you will definitely save a lot of money. Why? because making yogurt with a liter of milk will also produce 1 liter. For example, if you buy a liter of fresh milk in tetra pack, it will cost more or less 65 pesos and will produce about 8 cups of 125ml yogurt. If the price of a 125 yogurt is 32 pesos, multiply it by 8 and it will cost you 256 pesos!

Comparing it with a home made yogurt, 65 pesos of milk is only 25% of the 256 pesos worth of 8 cups of yogurt. And despite the proliferation of yogurt makers on the market, everything you need to make yogurt is probably already in your kitchen, with the possible exception of the thermometer. So to start making the yogurt, you will need: Read the rest of this entry »

abalone
WHAT ARE ABALONES?

Abalones are gastropod molluscs belonging to the Family Haliotidae. The genus Haliotis means “sea ear.” There are about 70 species of abalone distributed worldwide. Abalones are slow-growing one-shelled gastropods which live in rocky and shallow waters near stands of algae. The abalone shell is characterized by having a row of respiratory pores called “tremata” located along its left margin. There are three species of abalone that naturally occur in Philippine marine waters: the donkey’s ear abalone Haliotis asinina (local name – “lapas” or “sobra-sobra” in Ilonggo), H. varia (local name – “kapinan”), and H. ovina. H. asinina grow to a maximum size of 10-11 cm in shell length while H. varia and H. ovina are relatively smaller with maximum shell length of 6-8 cm. There are existing commercial abalone fisheries in the provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros, Samar, Surigao, Zamboanga, Palawan and Tawi-Tawi.
