500 pesos for Poor Filipinos

June 4th, 2008 Lito

I’m not sure if this is the first time that I hear and see on television that the government will give money directly to Filipinos. What I only know is government gives livelihood projects and financial aids to government bodies and then dissipate it to the poor. Maybe giving money directly to the people is better because at least corruption will be minimized provided that each Filipinos will really receive such blessings and not be blocked and pocketed again.

According to the news “The “lifeline aid” programme, limited to about four million poor households, will see families receive a one-off payment of 500 pesos (13 dollars) to help meet rising electricity costs, Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral told reporters.” ( Source: Yahoo Asia News )

Although this move is short term and only a remedy, not a cure, at least it’s better than nothing. You can read the whole story here: Yahoo Asia News

as you said if it does reach the poor it is a remedy not a cure. 500 pesos does not bring stability. its jobs that are needed as well as education. its a good thing that our economy is slowly moving towards services industries. this will increase the demand for a qualified labor supply.
