Winning The Philippine Lotto

I assume that every Filipino is dreaming of winning the Philippine Lotto because this will surely change the lives on whoever the winning numbers have landed to. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m an avid Philippine Lotto fan but not to the extent that I will sacrifice everything just to place a bet. It’s just my way of escaping from the reality of hardship. Specially now that I’m drowning in debts. Not because I’m luxurious and always buying every latest gizmos in the market. In fact I only have one child but I’m not only supporting my family but also an extended family. You know what I mean. So buying a lotto ticket is like buying hope. I remember when I was with my co worker which  also became my friend when we were talking about cosmetics. He said women are not buying those beauty stuffs like make-up, lipsticks  or whatever women put on their skin or faces for them to become beautiful but they are buying them to have “hope” on becoming beautiful. He he, no pun intended.

So people who buy lotto tickets, specially those who think like me are just doing it to buy hope.  I always think the odds are too great to win the lotto, and only “hope” that luck will smile at me. I read an interesting post on zdiaz.com regarding the odds of winning and it was computed as 49 x 48 x 47 x 46 x 45 x 44 = 10,068,347,520 for 6/49 Philippine Lotto. You can surely win if you will bet every combination on that 10 billion and by multiplying it by 20 pesos, you need 201,366,950,400 pesos. If I have that amount of money, I don’t need to bet on any lotto!

Will “Bayong” Help in The Economic Crisis?

bayongJust this month the DTI (Department of Trade and Industries) is encouraging the use and production of the “bayong” to help save jobs in the countryside and of course this will turn the saving of the environment. The pet  project is called Bayong Development Project. To those who were not familiar or don’t speak tagalog, bayong is made from buri palm leaves and then woven to create the bag. Other materials are also used like pandan leaves, sabutan, romblon and abaca which is usually found in the areas of the Philippines. Now the other question is, will this help create jobs? Since creating bayong is labor intensive, it will surely create jobs specially to those who live in the rural areas because the indigenous materials are available there. But even though this will create jobs because of how it is manufactured, the areas of concern will be the practically of it so it can be easily accepted and used instead of using plastic bags which are harmful to the environment.

Plastic bags are everywhere and many times cheaper than a hand woven bayong. The reason why it is cheap is because the materials are cheap and machines are used to manufacture them. Machines can be used to bring down the cost but how about the jobs? there will be less job and since machines used electricity, there will be less saving of the environment too because electricity needs power plants that use coal or diesel to generate electricity. One exemption is, if electricity comes from geothermal or hydro electric power plants.

Changing Google Adsense Font on Your Ad Units

I assume every Adsense publisher already knew about this new feature. Specially those who already subscribed to the Inside Adsense blog.  I guess this is one of the features Adsense publishers have been waiting for aside from the other goodies Google have already launched like Adsense for Domains and integrating Adsense to Google Analytics. With this new feature, publishers are now able to select the kind of font they want to show on their ad units. As of this moment there are only three selections of fonts and they are Arial, Times, and Verdana font faces. And in the future there might be more font selections. I would like to go on to the details on how to change the font step by step but there is already an official blog post for it and this is the post: Fontastic new options for your ad units.

Money Transfer Using Your Friendster Account

Just this week I was watching my daughter opening her Friendster account and noticed that there was a “Send Money” on the MyTools section (see picture below for an example, but this time it was my FS account). It’s not that I don’t have a Friendster account that I didn’t noticed that, it’s because I seldom open my Friendster account. This is their new feature along with their latest addition of Friendster Mobile. You can send money to your friends using this feature by going to the profile page of your friends and clicking the GCASH button and specifying the amount you want to send. Obviously it is powered by GCASH because I already mentioned the GCASH button. :)

Even though this feature can be done online, you still be charge a php2.50 fee on your cellphone’s load.

Always Late for Work?

Are you always late going to work and your manager or supervisor are always scolding you and giving you disciplinary actions? When I was still working I hate to admit that I always get to the office late because of the not so very good condition of our traffic. It was also very hard to commute and even if you have your own car you can’t get through the traffic jam because of the road condition (e.g. narrow highways, undisciplined motorists and pedestrians, unending road constructions etc. etc.).  Not only that, when I imagine that I’ll gonna see my boss again in the office, I wish I could freeze time.

Now I found out what is the real reason why I’m always late. Look at the picture below……

26 Percent Growth of Outsourcing in The Philippines

call centerSound like good news but I still keep my fingers crossed. This was about the announcement or declaration made by the head of the country’s Business Processing Association, Oscar Sanez. He declared that there was a 26 percent growth compared to 2007 and the companies in this country earned 6.06 Billion dollars in 2008. Also, officials and industry leaders anticipates the continuous growth due to the global financial crisis because foreign companies are seeking ways to cut expenses by hiring cheaper labor like in the Philippines.

One  thing I noticed in the news is that many countries still are unaware that English is the second language here in the Philippines. Countries like Germany and England still need to recognize this country as an English speaking country. One proof I wanted to cite about our country as being an English speaking nation are television commercials. Aren’t most of the commercial use the English language? Also most Filipino blogs and websites (like this one) use English as the primary language. How about you? Have you noticed that too?

Make Money Online

The term “make money online” is very popular in the internet. Why is it? just check it out on Google Trends. And in today’s economy, I assume that those who will be interested will increase dramatically due to the Global financial crisis. But that is only an opinion. If you will check Google trends again you will notice that in year 2008, the increase is steadily climbing comparing it from the previous years. But it is still a mystery to me why Nigeria is on the top of the list (see regions).  Look at the trend below:
