I was lucky enough to have an Acer laptop (Aspire 4720z) although not the latest model, at least one of my mini business plan came to a realization. Actually it was given to me by my sister-in-law who was working in Dubai. I guess she was fed up on all my whining about how hard it is to make ends meet because me and my wife are taking care of her son and my mother-in-law. I was not expecting anything from her, just to give what is due to her son and my mother-in-law so it will not be hard for me to make ends meet. So much for that. And about the laptop, I can say that it is stylish and doesn’t look cheap even though this is cheaper compared to other laptops I’ve seen.
Not really for gamers but most of the games like Yahoo! games can run with this rig. Maybe graphic intensive games can run satisfactorily but it might be slow and can overheat. In my observation, overheating causes this laptop to hang aside from Firefox that slows down the shutdown specially if you have Zone Alarm installed in Windows Vista. The trick is to shut the Zone Alarm first before hitting the shutdown button.
I’ve seen a laptop stand made from clear acrylic with two fans underneath and a USB plug so you can plug it on your laptop. I plan to buy it but I’m having second thoughts before. But later I realized that I needed it to cool down my laptop. So using my Mac Gyver instinct, what I did is get four pieces of Coke 1.5 litre caps and place it under the laptop. Where the four rubber feet are standing on four bottle caps. Looks silly but it works! The idea there is for the cpu and hardisk to be ventilated because the clearance is so small between the surface (e.g. table) and the bottom of the laptop. So ,if you are having problems on your laptop overheating while out of town or in vacation, this might be a good remedy if you forgot to bring your laptop stand.
