Make Five Centavos to A Million Pesos

Sounds crazy. How can you transform five centavos to a million pesos? I heard these words from a known Filipino entrepreneur. Do you know Filbar’s? When you are going to megamall maybe you have seen it. It has many branches in malls here in our country. What I’m taking about is Filemon Barbasa. He owns many magazine and bookshops that caters on back issues which you can buy for bargain.

The words he said “transform five centavos to a million pesos” is what I heard when he was interviewed in a TV program which instantly sticks in my mind. What he taking about is not magic. What he is saying is being an entrepreneur. How good you are in seizing opportunities. I also read some stories about him in the entrepreneur magazine when he was still a sales man where he said “I knock every door of every office in Makati to help my parents send my brothers and sister to school”. What I picture is he is a persistent and motivated man.

His luck turned when bought from a company stacks and stacks of old books and magazine which for 50 centavos each and to sell them from 3 to 5 pesos each. Now, 25 years later you can see a successful businessman having many chain of book stores all over the Philippines. So what I can only say is keep up the good work and thank you for giving us hope and inspiration Mr. Barbasa!
