by Lito on November 7, 2008

I found an article about Microsoft BizSpark. Below are quotes from the article:

Microsoft’s new BizSpark project is an effort to spur startups and entrepreneurs to use Microsoft technology when launching new companies. Microsoft is giving away software, services and support to startups earning less than $1 million to help them get off the ground and to the next level. The technology Microsoft is making available includes Visual Studio, Windows Server, SQL Server and Windows Azure.

Is the program available in the U.S. only? Again I quote: [click to continue...]

Google Ends Advertising Agreement With Yahoo!

by Lito on November 6, 2008

For months I am anticipating what will be the result of the Google-Yahoo! Ad Deal. Many were pessimistic of the effect of that deal as I have read in forums like the Webmaster World.com. As I was thinking this might have an effect on the eco system of the internet business particularly the publishers and advertisers and many online businesses who depend mostly on search engine traffic. I’m no guru to judge what wll be the outcome, it might have good effect on one side of the business world and negative effect on the other side. It might not look good but might be a blessing in disguise. Who knows?

Online Advertising On A Weak Economy

by Lito on October 10, 2008

It’s inevitable, recession is starting in the U.S. already and may affect the world’s economy. Many businesses are already laying off many workers and many business already folded up including many online businesses. But what about advertising? According to the article I read, its just the opposite. Many recessions already hit the United States and companies who survived knew what to do to save their company. It’s called “Branding”. In a weak economy, that’s what companies should be doing. They should advertise to make their name look important and stick to the minds of the people. It will also make an impression that a company is doing all right despite of a bad economy and many will be loyal to the products they are selling.

Recession comes and goes and the saying is true that “History Repeats Itself” and “There Is Nothing New Under the Sun”. In the article by Svetlana Gladkova at Profy he points out things about online advertising, and how it will be affected as our economy worsens. She provides a very thought-provoking analysis on the subject, comparing it to what advertising was like in the great depression.  This is some of her analysis: [click to continue...]

Multiply.Com Another Filipino Favorite Social Networking Site

by Lito on October 1, 2008

Beside Friendster, another website that is a favorite destination of Filipinos is Multiply.Com. Would you believe that out of 9 million subscribers, 2 million are Filipinos? that is about 22.22%. I often overlooked the facts that many Filipinos are subscribing to multiply.com and always thought that this is just another social networking site. But many subscribers are making home based businesses out of this site.

The owners of the site were Peter Pezaris and David Hersh. Based on the story I read in Entrepreneur Magazine it was accidental that they discovered that the big part of their traffic is coming from the Philippines when their traffic plummeted because it was holiday in the Philippines. So they realized that the Philippines is a vital part of their business because Filipinos like to socialize online. Now you have an idea if you wanted to target the local market online, aside from Friendster, their is multiply.com. If you wanted to read more detail about the story, read the september issue of Entrepreneur magazine.

World’s Top 10 Brands - Google is Number 10

by Lito on September 20, 2008

I saw the news first on Telegraph.co.uk about Google being included on the worlds top ten brands. I don’t know why because even Google is the king of the internet, not everybody is internet savvy or knows much about computers unlike Coca-Cola where people all over the world knows what Coca-Cola is ( synonymous to soft drinks ). Just observe the list below of the top ten brands:

The firm’s top 10 global brands are:

  1. Coca-Cola
  2. IBM
  3. Microsoft
  4. GE
  5. Nokia
  6. Toyota
  7. Intel
  8. McDonald’s
  9. Disney
  10. Google

I think the reason was Google is very close to our hearts like the other top brands ( Google really knows what internet users need ) and the fact that Google is really the king of the internet even though Yahoo! was considered as “The Mother of All Search Engines”. And also the obvious reason that many people are becoming aware on the importance of the internet.
