Job Opportunies for OFWs in South Australia

by Lito on December 21, 2008

Despite the current economic crisis, South Australia have job opportunities waiting for OFWs. This is contrary to the news we have been hearing and seeing on television where it is said that many companies have been laying off many OFWs due to the current economic situation of the world which is feared to be going to a grinding halt. This is what is stated on the OFW guide which I quote:

Demand and opportunities for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) show no signs of waning as more countries expressed their intention to hire more Pinoy workers despite the current financial crisis being experienced worldwide.

Home Business - Not Popular in The Philippines?

by Lito on December 20, 2008

I know you’ll be shocked as I am when I learned that home business is not that popular in the Philippines. Unlike in the U.S., home business is very popular. Why did I say that? for one thing, when you type the word “Home Business” I’m number one but the visitors that comes to my website that searched Google Philippines (www.google.com.ph) using that keyword is very negligible and almost none. Maybe I’m wrong because Yahoo! is popular among Fiipinos but at least I’m sure many surfers in this country are using Google. Look below what I got by using Google Trends. The search was geographical and narrowed it down to “Philippines” by choosing it on the selection drop-down menu.

Computer Keyboard

by Lito on December 19, 2008

I remember when I was still employed in a computer store owned by my father’s friend. It was actually my father’s friend’s son who owns it. It was located in Greenhills shopping center in San Juan but I was only employed there for less than a month because I wasn’t interested in selling computers that time. I wanted to pursue another career, as an AutoCAD designer because I wanted to learn more how to design stuffs and it was really my plan to use AutoCAD in designing fabricated hollow block machines which was our family business before it flopped. My goal then is to improve the existing design to make the noise tolerable enough. Another reason is why I don’t want to work there is both our parent had some quarrels before so I was embarrassed to work for him.  His mother told me that since he was their one and only son, they are looking for a trustee to look after him. They gave me an opportunity but I didn’t grabbed it. I’m too proud I guess.

So back to the computer keyboard story. That time (about 15 years ago), as I was listening from a computer technician, he was telling a story about the computer he was going to repair. It was an IBM XT 286 (he he very funny). Back then XT 486 is the latest CPU it was released after XT 386 which you have to install with a math coprocessor to speed it up a little bit. Then He said, “When I opened the casing of the CPU, I asked the owner of the computer, where did you get this stuff? in a museum?”. We were laughing so hard because 286 was already obsolete that time.

Gift Ideas

by Lito on December 16, 2008

Looking for a unique Christmas gift? I saw in the internet a PC mouse which is custom made and looks like it came from the Pirates of the Caribbean. It was called the Paradox Mouse. It was created by a blogger and has other PC peripheral modifications posted on his blog called Steam Punk.  The mouse looks creepy with real mouse skeleton attached to it (poor mouse). Maybe I’m wrong on mentioning it here at this time because it’s going to be Christmas soon. The mouse should be a Halloween decoration instead. The mouse has a real rat skull inside the grill-like structure (see photo) and rat’s spine on the body of the mouse. This is a functional mouse with left and right button and a scroll button in the middle.

Water Powered Car

by Lito on December 10, 2008

This is nothing new. In fact it was already invented by a Filipino inventor named Daniel Dingle 30 years ago and I remember that I heard it in the news when I was a little boy. But that invention never reached the market and up to now people are clamoring about the oil prices and transportation cost. If that invention did reached the market and all our vehicles were converted to water powered, maybe our economy will get better. But in these times where the crude oil prices plummeted, this might not be too important. Because of the global economic crisis, many oil producing companies are reducing their production and that have a negative effect on the global crisis. Many workers will not be needed anymore until the demand rises.

I don’t know if this invention will truly help the economy because as I have said before, oil companies will be affected and along with it, job of so many workers including OFW. But on the environment, this will truly help because there will be no emissions from vehicles. Why is that? because this technology uses hydrogen as fuel. When hydrogen is combusted, it has no emission and will produce a little bit of water. And the easiest way to derive hydrogen is from water. Water is produced by electrolysis which separates the water into hydrogen and oxygen. What is amazing on his invention is the ability to produce hydrogen fast enough without the need for a reservoir or tank. So the danger of explosion is already eliminated unlike LPG powered vehicles where there is a chance of explosion when there is a leakage.
